The Gavia Pass is one of the highest mountain passes in the Italian Alps. It's history in the Giro d'ltalia is monumental. It is often on the Giro route and usually designated as the Cima Coppi, the highest point of the race. First used in the 1960 Giro won by Charly Gaul with appalling amount snow and cold weather. It was made more famous in 1988, the race passed over the Gavia in a snowstorm making for an epic stage won by Erik Breukink.
