TGIF: Custom Embroidery Cycling Caps: California Bear & Manx

Our California Bear embroidered custom cycling cap.
photo Red Dots Cycling

Since September, we have been on a torrid pace busy working on custom embroidery cycling caps. We're proud to show two examples; the California Bear custom cycling cap for an American client and our current project, the Manx cap for our client from the Isle of Man. And, it doesn't look like it's stopping soon, we are also working on custom embroidery caps for two teams in Canada and the US.

It's fun to finally take advantage of our wonderful embroidery machine!

TGIF: In Praise For The Panzer

photo Red Dots Cycling

TGIF is the day for a tribute to my Pfaff 96 sewing machine affectionately dubbed, 'the Panzer.'

We're currently producing a small batch of Piccolo inner tube pouches for a special order for a UK bike shop, and enjoying it with the help from the Panzer. I use it especially for rubber. I have much praise for this all mechanical machine. My Panzer can handle almost anything - effortlessly sewing through the tough rubber. It's super strong. After a session I take care to clean and lubricate it ... ready for more inner tubes.

It's wonderful!

Thank You to Casey Robertson: Caps Not Hats

Today, we received a wonderful email from Casey Robertson, co-founder of Caps Not Hats movement...

Great to see you guys supporting the CnH movement. I am the fellow who co-developed the project with Bill, and we had a great time with it during the summer Grand Tours. It's one of my favorite graphic projects to date, and what a great cause! Style must prevail!

Your cycling caps are fantastic.  Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Casey has partnered up with Bicycle Magazine's Bill Strickland to take the traditional cycling cap and help push it front row center on the podium. Carolle and I are extremely happy for the acknowledgement and endeavour to continue on, if not persistently, creating fine, unique and classic cycling caps for everyone.

In the words of Casey Robertson, "Keep our sartorial heritage alive and well. Please join us in this movement... #capsnothats."

Thank You.

First Look: Raiment Cycling Clothing

all photos Red Dots Cycling

Yesterday, I decided to see our cycling caps, now available at the new Raiment Cycling Clothing (247 W. Broadway, Vancouver).

I walked into the new location about 4-times the size of the old shop formerly at Musette Caffe, and saw our well displayed cycling caps.

Our summer/fall/winter caps...

Raiment is on busy W. Broadway and I believe it has the right cycling exposure front and center next to their  headquarters, La Bicicletta Pro Shop.

I had a nice chat with the friendly clerk and I'm proud to hear that our caps are both admired for their design and the importance they are locally produced. The same words echoed to me by owner, Kevin.

Next door to La Bicicletta Pro Shop...

I invite you to go visit Raiment Cycling Clothing and try on one of our Summer/Fall/Winter cycling caps - you'll want to add a few to your cycling kit.

A footnote: After my visit to Raiment I immediately posted on our Facebook page and shortly afterwards Chris posted, 'Just came in and picked up a winter cap. Cozy!'

Thanks and enjoy your winter cap Chris!

A huge wall size Fausto warmly greets you!

Viva Falling Leaves, Viva Fausto Coppi!

Falling Leaves Cycling Cap
photo Red Dots Cycling

Carolle and I have a certain 'Italian pride' for our limited edition Falling Leaves Cycling Cap.

We designed it based on Il Lombardia, 'la classica delle foglie morte' - the classic of the dead (falling) leaves. Made from black cotton/denim/spandex and a bold Italian tricolor under brim - we love the understated beauty.

Today is the 94th birthday of the 'Champion of Champions' Fausto Coppi.  For us, Coppi is synonymous with dashing Italian cycling winning Lombardia a record 5-times (1946, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1954).

Here's to our Falling Leaves Cycling Cap and to the legendary Fausto Coppi!

Custom Orders: Heads Up!

Photo Red Dots Cycling

As our Fall rush is upon us, today, we have a few custom orders for cycling caps.

Folks have asked us for 'special sizing' on our regular stocked caps  -  and it's not unusual. We can make caps over the 24" size, in fact, two customers requested over 24" that's X/L in our books. Contrary, we can make a cap smaller than S/M. In fact, we are currently making a SKA-licious cap size 19".

We normally supply our cycling caps in two general sizes: S/M (21-22.05") and M/L (22.5-24"). If you have a smaller or larger head, we are happy to make our caps to fit you!

Now Available At Hors Catégorie: Summer and Winter Caps and Wintry Thoughts

Just in!

We are very proud and excited our cycling caps are now available from Hors Catégorie in Montréal!

Co-owner of the Montréal cycle shop, Fred Landry, posted this wonderful photo our new crop of Summer and Winter cycling caps.

After I tweeted with him, I'm happy to discover that our winter caps will also do double duty as X-country ski caps! Now, why didn't we think of that? So, with that in mind let's go further...

Carolle lived in Montréal, years ago, and she wished she had a winter cap on to walk her dog, Amy, in wintry Parc Lafontaine. I can attest to that, having lived in Montréal and endured their rather cold winters. I remember laboriously shoveling my stranded car out from 6 ft high snow bank. I must admit I never encountered that much snow growing up in Edmonton. A winter cap like ours, would've worked very well indeed.

If you live in or around Montréal, or plan on visiting that beautiful city, then go and say hi to the friendly staff of Hors Catégorie and buy one of our cycling caps that can be use for X-country skiing, walking your dog or just hanging out in!

Thank you to Italian Cycling Journal for a fantastic review on our Viva la Corsa Rosa and L'Enfer du Nord cap. Angelo writes passionately of Italian cycling and we have a soft spot of all things Italian too.

We made our Viva la Corsa Rosa to celebrate the Giro with a flourish of pink and the Italian tricolor finishing it off with Italian dots!

Thanks Angelo!

TGIF: Thinker by Road Holland & Vive la Francaise!

Courtesy RoadHolland

We're very happy to collaborate...

Sharing ideas with like minded folks like Jonathan co-owner of Road Holland. Makers of superb, classic design cycling jerseys, made in Florida. Last July (Tour de France time), Jonathan contacted me of our Le Tour 100 cycling cap and I was more than happy to send him one. That's the image of Jonathan looking like the 'Thinker' with our Le Tour 100 cycling cap. We love the pose, the jersey and our cycling cap.

Our Le Tour 100 cycling cap is a limited edition cap with our own designed and produced embroidery - on sale while quantities last!

French Revolution...

Our love for linen/cotton holds no bounds. Linen is an amazing fabric; lightweight, breathable, anti-bacterial, wicks moisture rapidly, will keep you cool when it's hot and warm when it's cold. We are working on a new production of La Francaise, made from linen/cotton due out soon.

Fall in with Warm Caps

Red Hunting winter cycling cap...
beware you may get the hankering to chop wood
or go hunting!
photo Red Dots Cycling

This morning, a customer asked us...

This is not the first time, many customers have asked us to produce a wool cap without earflaps. We responded with the new Fall caps: Flemish Fall and Presta Fall. I have tested the Flemish Fall wool cap and it breathes and keeps me warm when the temps hover close to the single digits. The Flemish Fall works for me, for when it's not too cold to switch to the winter cap.

If you like to have that extra protection around the ears and upper neck - then go with the full winter cap with earflap because winter is around the corner.

So, we have you covered - new Fall caps for when it gets chilly and full winter caps when it gets downright cold!

TGIF: We Support Caps Not Hats

Thanks to Bill Strickland.

Carolle and I embrace and support the CapsNotHats movement. Not only making cycling caps stir our passion for cycling we believe that cycling caps should replace the baseball hat on the podium. And, baseball hats should belong in baseball. It would be odd if baseball players started to wear cycling caps.

If there's any proof that cycling caps are making a comeback look no further to the Tour de France and we thank Omega Pharma for giving the cycling cap due respect!

Chapeau to...

New September Cycling Caps!

Embrace these winter favorites!
photos Red Dots Cycling

Today is a great day to announce the new crop of Fall and Winter cycling caps!

We're always little more excited and proud when we introduce new and improved caps, so here are six cycling caps for September. We are now carrying two new Fall cycling caps - you may recognize them from the past- the Flemish Fall and Presta Fall caps. We love them and we think you will too! Both made from 100% wool and comfortable to wear almost all year round.

And that's not all! We have new fabric on our working table ready to cut and that means we plan to release two newer cycling caps very soon!

We love our new Fall caps!

TGIF: Made for Flandrians. Full Steam Ahead on Winter Caps!

Three new winter caps!
photo Red Dots Cycling

We're steaming ahead on making winter cycling caps.

It's going a bit crazy as we're pacing ourselves working on another two new winter caps. For loyal followers, you will recognize a few designs brought back to a new life.

Our photo shoot is moved a few days later than planned so we expect these beautiful winter caps to be in our store very soon. In fact, we already have customers asking for wool caps - we'll have them!

Our winter caps are so well made...
even a Flandrian would love them!

We had a request to remake an old favorite; The Flandrian!

Yes, we will make it and we are thinking highly of bringing it back. Perhaps with a few small improvements.

If you haven't done so... Like Us on our Facebook page to keep updated on news of our caps.

Winter is going to get... hot!
