Thank You to Casey Robertson: Caps Not Hats

Today, we received a wonderful email from Casey Robertson, co-founder of Caps Not Hats movement...

Great to see you guys supporting the CnH movement. I am the fellow who co-developed the project with Bill, and we had a great time with it during the summer Grand Tours. It's one of my favorite graphic projects to date, and what a great cause! Style must prevail!

Your cycling caps are fantastic.  Let me know if there's anything I can help you with.

Casey has partnered up with Bicycle Magazine's Bill Strickland to take the traditional cycling cap and help push it front row center on the podium. Carolle and I are extremely happy for the acknowledgement and endeavour to continue on, if not persistently, creating fine, unique and classic cycling caps for everyone.

In the words of Casey Robertson, "Keep our sartorial heritage alive and well. Please join us in this movement... #capsnothats."

Thank You.

First Look: Raiment Cycling Clothing

all photos Red Dots Cycling

Yesterday, I decided to see our cycling caps, now available at the new Raiment Cycling Clothing (247 W. Broadway, Vancouver).

I walked into the new location about 4-times the size of the old shop formerly at Musette Caffe, and saw our well displayed cycling caps.

Our summer/fall/winter caps...

Raiment is on busy W. Broadway and I believe it has the right cycling exposure front and center next to their  headquarters, La Bicicletta Pro Shop.

I had a nice chat with the friendly clerk and I'm proud to hear that our caps are both admired for their design and the importance they are locally produced. The same words echoed to me by owner, Kevin.

Next door to La Bicicletta Pro Shop...

I invite you to go visit Raiment Cycling Clothing and try on one of our Summer/Fall/Winter cycling caps - you'll want to add a few to your cycling kit.

A footnote: After my visit to Raiment I immediately posted on our Facebook page and shortly afterwards Chris posted, 'Just came in and picked up a winter cap. Cozy!'

Thanks and enjoy your winter cap Chris!

A huge wall size Fausto warmly greets you!

TGIF: Thinker by Road Holland & Vive la Francaise!

We're very happy to collaborate...

Sharing ideas with like minded folks like Jonathan co-owner of Road Holland. Makers of superb, classic design cycling jerseys, made in Florida. Last July (Tour de France time), Jonathan contacted me of our Le Tour 100 cycling cap and I was more than happy to send him one. That's the image of Jonathan looking like the 'Thinker' with our Le Tour 100 cycling cap. We love the pose, the jersey and our cycling cap.

Our Le Tour 100 cycling cap is a limited edition cap with our own designed and produced embroidery - on sale while quantities last!

French Revolution...

Our love for linen/cotton holds no bounds. Linen is an amazing fabric; lightweight, breathable, anti-bacterial, wicks moisture rapidly, will keep you cool when it's hot and warm when it's cold. We are working on a new production of La Francaise, made from linen/cotton due out soon.

Chapeau Hors Catégorie!

Grand Tour a porter...
La Francaise, Viva La Corsa Rosa & Vuelta El Toro!
via horscatégorie

It's heartwarming that our cycling caps are now offered at Hors Catégorie in Montréal.

Carolle is originally from Sept-îles and lived many years in Montréal. We both momentarily lived in the Plateau Mont Royal and my Marinoni was made in Terrebonne, so it's like 'full-circle' for us.

Hors Catégorie is a bike boutique store. I haven't been there... yet.

From what I can gather from their website, they offer custom bike fitting and service, high quality products - embracing the passion for cycling. We wholeheartedly share in the same passion for cycling.

A short while ago, Fred Landry contacted us in search of high quality cycling caps and accessories -made in Canada. Through the power of the Internet, we made a connection. Is it coincidence that Red Dots Cycling is similar with Hors Catégorie?

Chapeau!

A Match Made in Heaven!

courtesy: seriousandstylish.com

We would like to thank Jonathan of Road Holland for sending us the photo of how well our
Le Tour 100 cycling cap matches their fantastic Road Holland's Ultrecht Jersey.

Road Holland, based and made in the US, makes very well-made cycling jerseys. In fact, I am a proud owner of quite a few of them and enjoy them on my many rides.

The French style of our Le Tour 100 cap goes so well with the USA Edition Ultrecht... Stunning and a match made in heaven!

This morning we received an email from Dave of minimal wallet, "an independent site and not affiliated with any individual manufacturer." We are happy he showcased our new tdf 100 Piccola inner tube wallet on his site.

'We love wallets that are not only minimal, well designed and most importantly look good. You have to live with your wallet 8 - 10 hours a day, so love it and carry it with pride.'

Thanks Dave.

photo Red Dots Cycling

It really is a factory here as we are busy working with the blue monster, panzer, embroidery and serger machines. Our anticipation for the Tour de France is equally matched with finishing our upcoming limited edition cycling cap and recycled rubber wallet. We will work through the long weekend to finish and I can tell you  - we are excited!

Thanks to Sabine of Pfaff for my free 5-pack titanium needles!
photo Red Dots Cycling

One can never have enough needles...

When I saw the free 5-pack needle offer from the Pfaff Facebook page, I decided to pay Sabine of Pfaff on Granville a visit. It's so nice to visit her surrounded by all those beautiful old mechanical Pfaff sewing machines. She suggested a 5-pack Titanium quilting needles and I'm so happy to receive them Free!

Afterwards, we made our way downtown to the iconic Dressew store to pick up zippers and ribbon for our special caps and wallets. Richard found a mini French flag to celebrate le Tour.

This Monday, July 1st is Canada Day!

To celebrate we will have a Canada Day Sale! Check back this Monday for even lower prices on discontinued items and our new cycling caps ie. Venga! Venga!, Cappello da Ciclismo Nero, Viva La Corsa Rosa & Tempo. Remember for one day on Monday July 1st,  our prices will be slashed even further!

We get a warm and fuzzy feeling when we received this Tweet ...

Thanks Andrew!

It has been a busy week so ...TGIF!

Whenever we can include recycled materials in our products is a plus for sustainability. It is a pleasant surprised to find this elastic from our supplier. Carolle and I would like to Thank Guy of Le Grimpeur for his excellent post of our cycling caps and indiegogo cycling cap campaign. Read it here. We love it when people talk about us!

TGIF: Over a Week & Vancouver's New Bike Station

New and free
via vancitybuzz.com

Our indiegogo embroidered cycling cap campaign has taking more time than we anticipated.

We haven't had the time to relaxed. It's emotionally exciting and draining. It's like a full time job maintaining it; answering questions and taking care of the social media side. We are juggling many balls and we are the middle of a huge production for custom cycling caps. The feedback has been very positive. Since launching our embroidered cap project our online sales have doubled. Which is very good. Also, lots of exposure on other cycling posts - very grateful for this. If you missed it's here and here.

It's now over a week since our launch and we would like to thank everyone for all the positive feedback.

We have 34 days remaining... our campaign just started so contribute and share our link!

Interesting news from our fair city...

The power of the bike speaks tomorrow with a new bike repair station opening in Vancouver. We support this idea...

“This is awesome, we should have more of these in the city”, says student and avid cyclist GP Mendoza, “they open up future potential for cyclists of all ages and abilities”. Having access to tools for free, as well as being near a high-traffic bike route, will benefit and ease the ride of anyone with a bike.

The two bike stations will be at the Woodwards Atrium and Science World (next to the free air pump).

Seven Cycles: Our Newest Winter Cycling Cap!

Our latest custom winter cap for Seven Cycles.

Our latest custom winter cycling cap is greeted with fanfare from Seven Cycles in the US!

Lily, from Seven Cycles, said...

We are really pleased with them!

It's always a pleasure to work alongside Seven Cycles on their custom cycling caps and we are so proud to have made many custom cycling caps for them. Currently there are three custom cycling caps, made by us, and available on their site.

The Slate Sheep winter cap is made to fit comfortably under your helmet and to keep you warm on your cold rides. Made from 100% wool, the earflaps are double-layered made from bamboo cotton. Of course, all of our fabric is pre-wash to prevent shrinkage.

This handsome winter cap is exclusive to Seven Cycles and when it's gone it's gone.

Make It Show a Success

Folks followed our 'Bike' sign to see us!

The Make it Show was a success!

The winter caps was the star of the show. And the feedback was incredible. A lot of our customers were first-time buyers. And here is some of the testimonials...

a. Well made.
b. Fit well.
c. Glad that they are made in Vancouver.
d. Great fabric
e. Cool looking.

We couldn't agree more!

It was packed. About 9000 eager shoppers came through the doors and we are so glad there's two of us working. After the first day, sales was discouraging and we wondered if craft shows was worth it. Well, as the second, third and fourth days passed we quickly changed our minds. The sales picked up. And, what also was valuable is the feedback from folks. To have an on-line business is one thing, direct contact with our customers is also very important.

We want to thank Jenna and Chandler and all the folks for stopping by our booth... looks like we'll be back next year!

Testimonial of our Red Dots Cycling Caps: I prefer them to Rapha!

They are, I prefer them to Rapha - equal build quality but peaks don't snap as they're stiff material, not plastic

Thank you Steve!

Compared to Rapha

The Cycling Inquisition Sombrero by
Red Dots Cycling

This morning Klaus sent me this wonderful comment on the Cycling Inquistion Cycling Caps made by Carolle and I. You can purchase it here.

We know our cycling caps are very well design and beautifully handmade to our rigid specifications. For me, classic is the way to go. I am passionate riding my 25 year old steel lugged Marinoni and I could not imagine riding without one of our classic cycling caps.

After a few years of designing and re-designing, we're very confident to offer the best cycling caps we can make.

To be compared to the famous Rapha it certainly makes us feel that we're finally breaking away and catching up to the head of the peloton in cycling caps.

"Thanks for the LBL recap Klaus, but I'm writing more to say thanks for the Cycling Inquisition cap which arrived here in the UK a couple of days ago. What a lovely piece of kit it is, and if anybody is considering buying one I can honestly say it's the best cycling cap I have ever had. It is;

> Made with lovely, substantial cotton, not the thin stuff on cheaper, throw away musettes.
> A proper size large with a deep "bowl" that fits more fully than a casquette.
> The peak is stiff but not plastic and so will not break like virtually all cycling caps that I have.

I have several Rapha caps for which I pay their price premium in part because I like the design but mainly because they are sized and I need a larger cap for my big head - one size fits all tends to be a bit tight on me (a skull krusher you could say). The Cycling Inquisition cap beats the Rapha hands down in most "departments" AND is cheaper. The material is better, the "build" quality equal, the design better and, best of all, I won't ruin it by accidentally (and irreparably) snapping the peak. Call this a recommendation ..........."

Steve from the UK.
